PlanoQuita: People who owe money have little technology on their side.

PlanoQuita is a Brazilian debt payoff app built from the side of the person who owes. It organizes everything the person owes, explains the situation in words, shows where to start and follows the plan month by month. It is on its way to the stores, for iPhone and Android. None of its revenue comes from creditors.

Thesis

Most debt technology works for the other side.

Credit, collections and settlements make money when the person borrows more or when the creditor gets paid. Tools to understand and plan exist, but they tend to be one-off, generic or limited to the debts that show up on a credit report. PlanoQuita does not make money from credit or from creditors: it makes money when the person sees value in following their own plan. This alignment is what sustains trust and retention in the product.

  • Credit and refinancing

Makes money when the person borrows more.

  • Collections and settlements

Makes money when the creditor gets paid.

  • Calculators and spreadsheets

Do the math once and do not follow through.

  • Budgeting apps

Show the numbers, but usually do not say where to start.

Audience

Who the product was built for.

  • People starting to get organized

Several debts, some overdue, and the feeling that every choice is wrong. They need clarity and a first step they can take.

  • People who pay, but at the limit

They keep almost everything current, but the month does not add up. They want to keep the situation from getting worse.

  • People who want to compare paths

Already organized and wanting to decide better. They see the effect of each choice before changing the plan.

Product

A debt payoff app built from the side of the person who owes.

The app brings scattered debts together into a plan the person understands and can follow. High, persistent indebtedness meets a generation used to handling their finances on their phone. The person decides at every step.

  • Organizes

All debts in one place, including rent, household bills and debts with relatives, which usually do not show up on a credit report.

  • Explains

The person’s situation in words, with what needs attention now.

  • Suggests

Shows where to start and explains the reason for each step. The final choice is the person’s.

  • Plans

A plan at a pace that fits the month, with an advance warning when a pace gets too tight.

  • Follows through

Check-ins, a new forecast when life changes and progress in plain sight, month by month.

A plan in progressIllustrative example

45% of the total paid off

  • Debt APaid off
  • Debt BPaid off
  • Debt CBeing paid
  • Debt DNext

The app shows the state of each debt in the plan, and each step comes with its reason. Illustrative example, unrelated to investment in Doppes Hub.

Stage

What is done and what comes next.

  • Done

App for iPhone and Android, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with in-house operations behind it.

  • Next

Grow the base of people using the app and track usage and retention.

  • Later

Evolve the product from real use, without giving up independence from creditors.

Already delivered in the app

  • Quick or full debt entry, always checked before saving
  • The situation explained in words, the reason for each step and a plan at the pace the person chooses
  • Follow-through by check-in, monthly and yearly reports, history and PDF
  • Month-by-month forecast and "what if" simulations, without touching the plan
  • A stage after payoff: completed plans, achievements, an emergency fund goal and a new cycle
  • Privacy inside the app: lock, connected devices, a copy of one’s data and account deletion
